Indians shelve Pestano with sore elbow

Cleveland, OH –  The Cleveland Indians placed reliever Vinnie Pestano on the 15-day disabled list prior to Monday's game against the Oakland Athletics.

Pestano, Cleveland's primary setup man, has not pitched since April 28 due to tendinitis in his right elbow. The move was made retroactive to May 1.

The 28-year-old, who ranked second in the majors with 36 holds last season, had allowed two runs over eight innings through his first eight appearances of 2013.

To fill the available roster spot, the Indians recalled pitcher Nick Hagadone from Triple-A Columbus. The left-hander posted a 2.45 earned run average in eight games during a previous stint with Cleveland this season.

Weeks lifts Brewers to 3-2 win with triple after Dodgers' Greinke scratched with elbow issue

PHOENIX, Ariz. –  Rickie Weeks had an RBI triple off Hyun-Jim Ryu after Zack Greinke was scratched from his start Monday because of elbow inflammation, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2.

The Dodgers said Greinke was examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache and that an MRI in Arizona last week showed no structural damage. The 2009 AL Cy Young Award winner, signed to a $147 million, six-year contract in December as a free agent, received an injection of platelet-rich plasma and anti-inflammatory medication. The Dodgers said the right-hander will rest for two to three days and then go on a progressive throwing program.

Mike Fiers pitched out of jams in the second and third innings for Milwaukee. Fiers allowed two unearned runs in four innings, while giving up six hits.
