Jazz C Enes Kanter to have surgery on dislocated shoulder; out for rest of season

Utah Jazz center Enes Kanter will have surgery to repair damage on his dislocated left shoulder and will miss the rest of the season.

The team announced the decision Tuesday before Utah's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Surgery is set for Wednesday and will be performed in Chicago by Dr. Guido Marra.

The 20-year old Kanter hinted last week that he might be done when he indicated he was riding a stationary bike to stay in shape for "summer."

The injury occurred March 27 against Phoenix when the Suns' 7-foot-2, 265-pound center Hamed Haddadi fell on Kanter as they battled over a loose ball.

Kanter was averaging 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds a game.

The Jazz entered Tuesday trying to hold on to the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference.

UK taxpayers reportedly fund aspiring model's breast implant surgery

A 22-year-old aspiring model reportedly received breast implants courtesy of British taxpayers after doctors agreed her flat chest was causing her emotional distress.

The National Health Service, or NHS, England's publicly funded health care system, footed the bill for Josie Cunningham's breast augmentation surgery in January after the woman complained to doctors her lack of assets was "ruining her life," according to the Telegraph.

Cunningham's doctor "referred me for the operation because I wasn't just flat-chested -- I didn't have any boobs whatsoever," she told The Sun newspaper. "I lived in terror of ever being seen in a bikini and could never set foot outside without a padded bra."

Cunningham's breasts reportedly were enlarged from a size 32A to a 36DD.

The surgery, which cost more than $7,000, drew criticism from those who argue the taxpayer-funded system should be helping people with "serious medical needs."

"This is a waste of NHS cash, and taxpayers will be stunned that they have been landed with the bill," said Matthew Sinclair of the TaxPayers' Alliance. "NHS bosses must not allow the system to be manipulated by people wanting cosmetic surgery merely to enhance their career prospects.

Lauren Jackson recovering from hamstring surgery, but has no plans to play until next year

Lauren Jackson says she has no plans to play basketball until she returns to the Seattle Storm next May for the 2014 WNBA season, and that she's experiencing no pain for the first time in three years.

Jackson, who has won four Olympic medals with Australia, including a bronze last year at the London Games, underwent surgery on her right hamstring in January, a chronic injury which she says nearly forced her to retire.

The three-time WNBA MVP told Australian media that "now I'm running up hills, doing everything I can, pain-free."

Jackson has not played a full WNBA season since 2010, when Seattle won its second league title. In nine games last year after the Olympics, she averaged a career-low 10.2 points.
