Officials: General fired over alcohol, sex charges

Defense officials say an Army major general with the U.S. Africa Command has been relieved of his post in connection with alcohol and sexual misconduct charges. He has appealed the dismissal to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel.

Officials say Maj. Gen. Ralph Baker, commander of the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, was fired from his command last Thursday by Gen. Carter Ham, head of U.S. Africa Command, after an administrative review. Baker took over the task force, based in Djibouti, last May.

The allegations against Baker involve harassment and inappropriate contact. He has returned to Washington and is temporarily serving as a special assistant to the vice chief of the Army. Officials weren't authorized to talk publicly about the case so spoke on condition of anonymity.

Homeowner fired warning before fatally shooting teen intruder, sheriff says

Police say a homeowner fired a warning shot before fatally shooting a 16-year-old neighbor who drunkenly entered the wrong home by mistake.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that Caleb Gordley of Sterling died from a gunshot to the back of his shoulder.

Caleb died Sunday morning. His family said he sneaked out of the house Saturday night and went drinking with friends. Walking home, he mistakenly entered a similar home two doors down from his own by crawling through a back window.

The sheriff's office said Thursday that the homeowner gave verbal warnings and fired a warning shot, but Caleb continued up the stairs. Caleb was shot in the back after passing the homeowner in a hallway and walking toward a bedroom where others were located.

Woman fired from San Diego Christian College for premarital sex, lawsuit alleges

A San Diego college employee is suing the school, alleging she was fired from her job for engaging in premarital sex.

Teri James says her employer, San Diego Christian College, wrongly terminated her after learning of her pregnancy, KGTV reported.

James, a financial aid specialist at the school, alleges “discrimination on account of gender, pregnancy and marital status.”

James’ attorney, Gloria Allred, says the woman’s then-boyfriend – who is now James’ husband – was treated very differently by the school.

Allred told KGTV that James’ husband was offered a job even though the school knew he fathered James’ baby.

School officials declined to comment to 10News, but said there is a covenant contract all job candidates sign before they are hired.

The contract, according to KGTV, in part, says “… sexually immoral behavior, including premarital sex, adultery, pornography and homosexuality …” are not allowed.

Allred said the school’s firing of her client “violates state law and the California Constitution, and discriminates against women.”
