Deer crashes through windshield of Pennsylvania bus, takes a ride

A deer has taken a ride on a western Pennsylvania bus.

The Johnstown Tribune-Democrat newspaper (http://bit.ly/14nGOx0) reports the white-tailed deer crashed through the windshield of a public bus being driven Tuesday evening in Johnstown, about 65 miles east of Pittsburgh.

The deer hopped around frantically near the driver before jumping on empty seats and running in circles in the aisle.

Authorities say the driver stopped the bus and opened the door and the deer got off. Cambria County transportation spokesman Josh Yoder says it "just walked off the bus."

The bus was carrying one passenger, who was seated in the back far from the deer. No injuries have been reported.

The bus has been taken to a maintenance facility for repairs.

There's no word on what happened to the deer.

Pennsylvania boy with skin disease sent home from school over improper hairstyle

An 8-year-old boy undergoing treatment to fight a rare skin disease has been kept out of his Christian school over his hairstyle.

Zion Williams, who attends the Shiloh Christian Academy in Philadelphia, suffers from Alopecia, a skin disease that causes hair to fall out, Fox 29 reports.

Williams has been getting shots at Drexel University to help the hair grow back, but the academy sent him home Wednesday for violating a school ban on long hair.

"I think it's heartless,” his mother, Talia Mann, told Fox 29. “It's heartless that he would actually take him out of school because of something so simple as a haircut."

The school rejected a doctor’s note calling for Zion to be exempt from the rule due to his medical condition.

However, Bishop Derrick Williams, who is the principal and pastor of the Shiloh Christian Academy, said Zion would be allowed back in school Tuesday.

90-year-old accused of punching state trooper in Pennsylvania

A 90-year-old man has been jailed on charges he punched a state trooper called to the man's western Pennsylvania home to check on the welfare of a woman who lived there.

Troopers from the Indiana barracks don't say in a news release who asked them to check on the woman or why, or even who she is, and a barracks spokesman could not immediately be reached Tuesday.

But police do say the Russell Stiffler threatened to shoot any troopers or medical personnel who came to his home after police were asked to check on the woman just before 6 p.m. Friday.

When troopers arrived, police say Stiffler met them outside and refused to show his hands and, instead, punched a trooper and was arrested.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Stiffler, who faces a hearing March 25.

Pennsylvania mother ordered 12-year-old daughter to fight, police say

A Pennsylvania woman is accused of forcing her daughter, 12, to fight another girl and ordering bystanders to stay away when they tried to help, MyFoxPhilly.com reported.

Police say Michele Davenport, 45, claimed her daughter was bullied by the other girl and wanted her to stand up for herself.

The incident was recorded on a cellphone, and Davenport is apparently heard saying, "Get her down now," among other words of encouragement to her daughter.

The other girl, 12, sustained a concussion from the fight and was taken to the hospital, police say.

Davenport and her daughter were both charged with assault, MyFoxPhilly.com reported.
