JAKARTA, Indonesia – Indonesia says its elite anti-terror squad seized five homemade bombs and arrested two militants who were planning to attack the Myanmar Embassy because of treatment of Muslims in that country.
National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar said Friday the men were arrested in central Jakarta on a motorbike just before midnight Thursday after authorities were tipped to their whereabouts.
The spokesman says the interrogation of Zainal Abidin and Julisman led to a rented house where explosive materials were found.
Amar said the men told authorities they planned to attack the Myanmar Embassy to protest against treatment of minority Muslims in Myanmar.
Sectarian violence in the Buddhist-majority country has killed scores, and thousands of Muslims have been driven from their homes.
